I have had a stove with back boiler fitted in too a bungalow the Plummer ran the pipe work up onto the crawl space and back down into the hotpress I think the distance was about 45 too 50ft from stove too tank Plummer said it would work as a gravity flow

curalation pump is fitted on the flow pipe in hotpress near tank the problem I'm.having is when I light the stove once it heats up the stat turns on the pump and the rad get Luke warm ish but the stove dumps the hot water into the header tank the flow pipe does be red hot and the return pipe is always cold

any advice would be appreciated on this as Plummer isn't bother about coming back

so many things don't sound right to me

the plumbing lads will be on later and will be able to advise

if im reading your post correctly 45FT for a gravity circuit seems way too long

there should be no valves etc on this circuit and all should be done in 1" copper

leave it off for now solid fuel is not something to be messed with

also where is the stat to turn on the pump situated

    hi jimf

the stat was in the hotpress but I had an electrician move it too the flow pipe at the back of the stove
when he was looking at it he did say there was no bypass or heat leak rad i think he call it put so he was gping too wire a zones too open when the pump would turn on

the most important thing with a back boiler is a proper working gravity circuit

for the very reason if you have a power out with the stove lighting the water has to be able to get away from the stove without the assistance of the pump

Do not put a valve or zone on the flow or return, if you do you literally have a bomb in your house.

that the last thing i like too hear this was done by a recommended Plummer that's been plumming with 40yrs

as far as I know there isn't any valve or zone on the flow or return the way the electrician explain it too me was there was no bypass too a rad fitted so when I lite the stove the hot water was only going too the tank unless I manually open a zone or turned on one of the zones at the clock
so for safety sake he wire a zone too open automatically when the stat turns on the circulation pump

im afraid you need to have this whole install checked over before using it again
there should be no switches valves or otherwise need to be turned on when you light the stove

we know its not what you want to hear but its the only advice we can give you

thanks for the advice i was guessing i would have too get someone new too look it over and see what can be done

I don't know much about plumming but just a question what would your thoughts be about installing a heat genie systemlink would it improve things it's was just a suggestion from a friend

One must wonder is the vent not on the highest point of the line and thus is the pipe airlocking?
