Emergency USC?

I have just returned from living abroad for a few years. I dont remember paying USC before but I probably did before we left Ireland in 2012. I dont know anything about USC payments other than what I have read up in the last 2 days. My interest arose when I saw how much I was paying, I paid E433 this month and E300 last month for 2 weeks work. My salary is E65,000 a year. Am I paying an emergency rate of USC? My pay slip says Tax/USC Status: E and EMER ST.PER: 8 and PRSI Code: A1.
I have no idea what any of this means other than I lost quite a chunk of my wages over the last 2 months.

Yep 8% is the emergency rate.

Ring revenue to get it sorted.

USC rates for 2018 are https://www.revenue.ie/en/jobs-and-pensions/usc/standard-rates-and-thresholds-of-usc.aspx
So looks like you on emergency tax/usc now. As previous poster said ring revenue and they’ll sort it.

Thanks. Does that apply to PAYE as well or are they both on different systems? I paid E1590 PAYE but I think that could be the normal rate.

You said status was E so Tax is emergency too from the look of it, but they will correct both it’s all dealt with by the one department in revenue. You’ll get a tax credit cert with everything on it.

have you set up an account with Revenue for yourself? You also need to register your new employment with Revenue as this will take you off emergency taxes quickly. You should not really trust your employer to do this, they should but often don't always!

I agree with PAYE Modernisation comin 01 Jan next every employee should have a My Account set up. All the P forms will be gone so there will not be any paperwork to hand a new employer. Currently if employee comes from another job they have a p45 so employer loads that to ROS. If the employee has no previous p45 the employer should file a p46 but that may not happen and the employee stays on emergency until the increasing level of deductions become noticeable. All first time employments must now be commenced on MyAccount. Real time reporting will mean that you can log into MyAccount and get up to date data on the employment and if there is anything wrong it will be picked up quickly.
