    Hi guys
I’ve no water coming out of my cold taps upstairs and the pressure on the hot taps is very low... taps downstairs seem to be working. Any ideas what’s going on or what I could check before ringing a plumber in the morning?
They were all fine earlier in the day...
    cheers

    That's a tricky one.
    Questions
    1. Did everything work ok previously?
    2. Was any work carried out on the plumbing system recently?

Assuming everything was ok before the first thing I would do is take a look in the tank in the attic. Is it full?

Yeah all worked perfect earlier... no work carried out at all. I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to check the ranch in the attic. Is there anything I should look out for? What do I do if it is empty or full ?
    Appreciate the help

Houses usually supply mains water to the kitchen sink only.

A mains supply is then routed to a cold water storage tank, usually in the attic which is filled from a ball cock valve. From this tank the cold supply to the wash hand basins is usually sourced.

A feed from this tank is also routed to the hot water copper cylinder. This goes in at the bottom of the tank and hot water supplies are drawn from the top of the copper cylinder. In most houses two heat sources are used to heat water in this cylinder, an immersion heater heated by electricity and a connection to the central heating system through a copper tube in the cylinder which allows heat from the central heating system to heat the water in the tank. Not that there is no direct connection from the central heating water to the hot water supply to the washhand basins or the kitchen sink. Only heat is exchanged between both systems.

Check the ballcock in the attic.

I'm not a plumber but if the tank is full I'd suspect air in the system. No idea how it might have got there though. If it's empty the problem will be obvious.

Thanks for the replies... all taps are working fine again this morning. Very strange but at least it working again and I didn’t have to climb up in to the attic ðŸ‘
