Stuttgart? Anyone been? A de tour maybe?

Anyone been to Stuttgart? Any recommendations and advice about the city itself?

Myself and partner heading in December for a music festival said we’d make a long weekend out of it. The Christmas markets will be on which I’m excited for

However slightly thinking of making a de tour, any ideas? For example getting the train to another city in the way home for a night and flying from there back to Ireland?

Heidleberg just north of Stuttgart is probably one of the best places for a xmas market
Then head up the road to Frankfurt and maybe fly out of there

The waldhotel in Stuttgart is a nice hotel aswell if youre searching

Never been there but Stuttgart is the home of Mercedes-Benz.

It really depends on what you're looking for. I like Stuttgart, plenty to do and see around there and the Christmas market is nice too. Ludwigsburg is very close, you could visit the castle there too. If you really want to visit another city then I'd second Heidelberg, or maybe even Munich although that's not that close. Nürnberg has one of the biggest Christmas markets so you could consider that too, but it would be very busy.

So from the sounds of it we’d have plenty to do if we go for 4 nights? Just a bit worried we would struggle to fill the days but it seems not

It's likely to be very cold but if you get a clear day, I'd take a tour of the TV tower. A trip to the walled city of Esslingen might be interesting.

Stuttgart is a small city and easy to get around. Worth doing a walking tour - you can book one at the tourist office.

The Christmas market lovely. A fun way to spend an evening.

The Mercedes Benz museum is really excellent (and Im not a fan of cars) - well worth a visit. Also worth visiting is the university town of Tubingen close by.

Bohnenviertel ("Bean Town") area is good for nightlife.

Some decent spas nearby too.

Not a lot of English spoken - bring a phrasebook!

The Hohenzollern castle is also not too far away. The lad that lives there would be the German Emperor now if that system of family rule was still in effect.

As said above, theres heaps of lovely historic towns around there to visit. The "Timber framed house - road" is like the Wild atlantic way but for cute towns and theres a heap of them nearby Stuttgart.

German rail can get quite expensiv. But there are ways around it. For example country tickets. Stuttgart is in Baden-Würtemberg as well as Heidelberg. So there you could use it easily. You can combine two or more of these tickest. Very handy if you want to go to Munich. Just get the bavarian ticket as well. But make sure to check the usual online site for specials as well.

They are connecting nearly all german cities as well of a lot of international mayor ones. You´ll have free WiFi, a 240V german socket next to you and little snacks and softdrinks for small money.
