Pre-conditioning without charging

Are there any electric cars out there that will allow you to set a departure time, cabin heating, etc. and not actually charge the battery?

The scenario I'm thinking of is a two-car setup where each one only needs to be charged overnight on alternate nights, but where the first to depart in the morning plugs the cable into the other one so that it's nice and toasty for the OH.

    Any thoughts?

I think most of them can do that.
    The Leaf definitely can.

The charge timer and the cabin precondition timer are separate.

So, lets say you were leaving at 9am every morning you would set the charge timer to complete in advance of that by setting an end time of say 8am.

When the other car leaves at, say, 8am you plug in the leaf and it WONT charge because the charge timer is set to end at 8am but you can have the cabin precondition timer set for a departure time of 9am so it will start heating when it sees fit based on the indoor/outdoor temp to ensure it is preconditioned fully for 9am.

You don't need to be charging to heat up the Leaf, there is some min battery level required IIRC, no longer driving it so forget.

Thats only if the two timers overlap, you can tell it to give priority to the charging until it gets to 80%. Just make sure the timers dont overlap and that problem goes away.

What if you want to plug in at home but only to cover the heating?

ie. Do all your charging at work, and normally get back to work the following day with the low battery warning on. Don't want/need to charge at home, but don't want the heater to decrease your battery. So plug in when you get home, don't charge, but the heater kicks in at 8am or whatever.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Ioniq can warm the cabin without charging (and vice versa). As KCross suggested, probably most EVs can do this.

    Ya cheapskate!

But yea, just set the charge timer for work hours and set the departure time for the morning.

Yep. You can activate the pre condition from the app or set out come on automatically before the departure time

If you run a 3kW heatpump off a small 12V battery of an ICE for a few minutes, the battery will be dead and the car won't start.

We don't have that problem as our cars have a huge main battery and they are connected to the grid

The Zoe has got this. Also start heating remotely from the fob

Luxury automatic cars have had this option for years. They start the engine to warm the car. Not added on manual cars because most people leave them in gear.
