Can anyone identify this external render? Lime or cement?

Hi,

I've attached pics, not sure if possible from the pics but maybe the style of render might indicate what it is.

Would like to know if the skins breathable before starting inside.

At a guess I'd say it's cement 😫

Looks like pebble dash that has been painted many many times. Cement base.

thanks, here is bit i found chipped away and it does, in my very limited experience look like cement..

Some form of pebble dash/cement render that has had coats of paint applied over the years.

You looking to remove it or freshen it up?

That's cementicious as far as I can see. Definitely not breathable.

I had a fella over to confirm and yes it is cement based render/dash

I wanted to know as I am trying to get a plan together to insulate our house better but don't want to cause more issues by trapping moisture and creating mold.

However, the lad I had over who does lime rendering said with the size of the house (220sqm) and the good condition of the existing external render and existing internal (external facing) walls, albeit cement based or non breathable gypsum. it would be very laborious and expensive to redo the external render.

so i have 3 1st floor bedrooms and bathroom to redo (original lime walls) and a kitchen.

I'm flip flopping between membrane with thermaboard and get on with things or internal breathable solutions like fiberboard but can't see the point with cement render..

Can anyone identify this external render? Lime or cement?
