BMW F10 fuel tank not filling

    Hoping someone can help me.
Picked up a new to me used 5 series today and went to fill it up.
Got half a tank in and the diesel pump auto stopped as if the tank was full. When I checked it was only half full and when I tried to put more in the pump kept shutting off as if it were full.
    Gauge is showing half full.

Range is showing only half of what it would show if full.
Any ideas as I don't want to have to bring the car back to the dealer if it's an easy fix.
    Many Thanks

For starter try another pump, even another filling station.
Pour fuel at slow rate - some filling nozzles could be more sensitive to air bubbles created by flowing fuel. How fuel nozzle work

If no change then back to dealers.

Some cars are also sensitive to the angle you use when filling up with the handle of the pump
