My elderly 9-3 has been looked after by Gordon Kellett Services for years. Unfortunately they've now closed down.

Can anyone recommend a place familiar with the Saab family in Dublin – ideally south side, but I'm open to suggestions?

    Thanks!

I used to get my car serviced by CD Motors off Richmond Avenue, think Colm was a Saab specialist. Always great service from him

This article mentions a Saab specialist garage in Bray, might be handy for the southside.

It's an Opel with a Saab badge on it and a few changes, but the main components are Opel. Just get a good Opel dealer either

    Ian Haskins in Bray..

He’s a gent to deal with and his work is 100%.

    He’s a trained Saab mechanic.

His business is Saab Wisdom on Facebook.

Not on it myself but pm me and I can send you his number if you want it.

    Cheers.

I don't mean this in a condescending way but does someone really need to be "SAAB Specialist" for routine servicing and maintenance?

Besides, isn't the Saab 9-3 just an Opel Vectra in disguise?

I think you'd be better off just looking for a reputable mechanic/garage in general .. don't limit yourself by looking for a "Saab Specialist"

There are plenty of them, where are you based???

As mentioned, Saab Wisdom in Bray McCormack Motors in Meath, MOR motors in Baldoyle (Old Tom Walsh Saab garage), Anthony Jordon (Saab spares) in Donegal that breaks them and I'm sure could service it if needed. Theres a guy in Cork and one in Galway also whos names escape me. These aforementioned lads are all Saab specialists and have the specific Tech2 Saab diagnostic computers.

Then theres mechanics like myself who work on them for service & maintenance but only have generic diagnostics, good for 80% of what would be maintenance work.

Best way forward is to join myself & all the other Saab owners on the facebook page 'Saab owners of Ireland'.

Aaaaand for clarification while General Motors did own Saab & Opel for a time they are not the same car. Some shared components but give me my 9-5 over a vectra any day.

Theres a chap out in Finglas called Stuee Mason and he's Saab mad, he's on that Facebook group that was mentioned, he carries parts, has Tech ll and is very resonable. Mick O'Reilly Motors is another top stop, lovely crew and nice workshop.
Anthony Jordan in Saab Spares has a chap....let me change that, has a god called Peter Hartley that does servicing in his place a couple of days a week but hes in Bundoran, would be worth it if you needed a few major jobs done. Peter has worked on my own 93 and he was 110% to deal with. Join that page as we're all gentle, theres a bit of banter, a lot of knowledge and a few meetups!

Faichney Ringwood in Stillorgan Business Park used to be Saab dealers. They were taken over by the Spirit Motor Group a few years ago. They still have some Saab parts, but i don't know if they service Saabs. I do know that Peter Faichney is still involved with the group, at least on a part-time basis.

    Worth a phone call.

(By the way, i would be interested to know how you get on, as i am in the same position. i got my 2007 Saab 9-5 serviced by Gordon Kellett Motors in March just before they closed, so i am looking for somewhere to service my car next year).

Another recommendation for Ian Haskins and Saab Wisdom in Bray
    http://www.saabwisdom.ie/

Had my Saab worked on by him and was very pleased with what he did. Really sound guy and knows his stuff. You can tell he's good by the number of Saabs outside the garage when you turn up!

They share a few parts with opel and the same chassis. But they're a different beast altogether. I had an oil leak in my 93 aero and I went to a few mechanics with it. 1 actually told me to just keep putting oil in when it's low. The other fella hadn't a clue. A Saab 9-3 Aero 2.0T is very different to a fecking Vectra. People who are saab specialists actually have a passion for their work and know what they're talking about.

    X1000.

    I've a 2008 93 Aero Ttid..

I was getting tyres next door to Ian's place one day when he shouted over that if i ever needed any work done to give him a call.

Shortly after, the car developed an odd fault at start up every morning where the power steering would go for a couple of seconds, before it eventually failed all together

I'd usually give these things a go myself but thought better of this one and gave Ian a call. it would have cost me a lot more in time and money mainly cause I was barking up the wrong tree and was convinced it was the PS pump so I'm glad I did.

He diagnosed the alternator straight away. Sourced a recon unit at a fraction of the price of a new one and sorted the problem.

Then again recently I noticed fluid on the drive. Rather then mess around with the problem I brought the car into Ian who took one look and had it immediately. He sourced a recon steering rack again at a fraction of the price and fitted it. Problem solved.

I started using him all the time now and wouldn't take it anywhere else. Had the gearbox done recently.

It's great comfort knowing he's there.

The chances are that a standard indy wouldn't have had the knowledge or experience of the make and model of car to know immediately what was wrong and then to have access to the recon parts making the job a bit more affordable.

I love the car but it's 08 so i don't want to be spending piles of cash on it where I can use recon parts.

For certain cars like Saab's, you need really need someone who's genuinely into them and has the knowledge and experience to back it up. It'll save you a fortune in misdiagnosed repairs in the long run.
