Passing your CPC practical but failing your driving test

Just to clear something up, I have a friend who passed his CPC practical but failed his driving test both on the same day, he received a piece of paper from the instructor saying he passed his CPC practical(walkaround), am I right in thinking he is not required to repeat his CPC practical in order to obtain his CPC card once he passes his driving test?

The 4 parts are Theory,Case studies, walkaround, driving test

For clarity, he passed the case studies, and the theory test to get his C permit

Correct. He is not required to take the CPC practical test again as he's passed it but he'll need to pass his driving test in order to be issued with his CPC card as he still not currently licensed to drive a Truck/Bus.

Is there a time limit regarding passing the driving test and the already passed cpc practical result running out or having to be re-done?
    Thanks
