Gas oven hob

    Hi there,

All 4 gas hobs stopped working earlier, the gas grill and gas oven and heating are working fine so it's not a gas supply issue.

Have tried the pin in the hole troubleshooting. This has happened before but came back soon after soon.

Any diy suggestions for what the issue may be before I call a plumber for what could be a simple fix.

    Thanks

Is it an issue with the ignitor? i.e. can you light it with an external fire source (lighter/match)
If you cant, most probably your jets (the little brass/gold coloured things that the gas comes out of) are clogged. They should screw off easily enough. Soak them in something and poke them with a pin.
They can get clogged if crap boils over onto them, although I would say it might be unusual for all 4 to get clogged... unless you had a big boil over/spillage recently.

Thanks jm, the ignitor is not the issue there was no gas coming from the Jets. I gave them a clean but did not resolve the issue at the time. I am baffled by what was causing it.

It is back working today anyway so thanks for the advice.

From a safety perspective, I'd really recommend you call an RGI gas Installer.

Secondly, in recent times, in certain parts of the country, there was an upgrade of some description to gas supplies being fitted with some sort of upgraded meter. Part of this process was testing the internal gas appliances. If you have had an upgrade and weren't present for the RGI to enter your home to test your appliances (which hopefully is unlikely) - then you need to do that.

Either way, spend the money- if Hob is old, then maybe it's time for a replacement?

If new, then it shouldn't be happening - don't leave it a mystery. :)
