    Any recommendations?

Got this for one of my kids. Decent enough tablet, with Full HD screen and expandable storage.

Those bush ones are good enough as far as budget tablets go. I had an 8 inch one and it was pretty good.

Thanks all. Just another quick question, used to ios.
The Lenovo table comes with android 6.0, is it an easy sys update to 8.0 or would they be stuck with the older o.s.?

Depends. I'm pretty sure that tablet might be updated to Android 7.0, but doubt it would go to Oreo 8.0. Tablets generally don't get much in the way of updates. I think Lenovo actually had a site that outlines updates for each of their products.

You should really be looking at the Bush, though. Twice the internal storage and a better screen for an extra €10. Even if you can expand the external 16gb on the Lenovo, that doesn't mean that you can move all of your apps across.

Thanks Basil, I was just leaning towards the lenovo in the hope there would be more chance of ongoing updates to software.

If you can't update the o.s. how does it stay on top of security vulnerabilities?

Security vulnerabilities are a non-issue, imo. A tiny percentage of Android devices worldwide would be on the latest security patches, and when have you ever heard of an issue as result of someone not having the latest patches?

I couldn't actually find that tablet on the Lenovo tablet on their site with the update roadmap, but you just have to assume you're buying a cheap tablet like that 'as is', and I wouldn't be expecting any updates.

Thanks Basil, sounds nuts though... my only experience with android is through a box or two but found the older one became a pain as the o.s. was too old to run new apps. Doesn’t seem like a very sustainable option... hmmm... stuff like this makes me lean back towards iOS because I don’t want to be getting calls from the folks... need it to just work :)

If you buy something running Nougat (Android 7.0), it will be fine for years to come. The problem with a lot of those boxes is they run something as old as KitKat, and they're running software that isn't even designed for a box.

Thanks Basil, just one question because I'm finding different answers "on the line" - does WhatsApp work ok on an android tablet?

I don't think it's officially supported, but you can get it to work by sideloading or using WhatsApp web on the tablet. I prefer Viber, they support tablets and have a Windows App. It's a shame everyone uses WhatsApp!

think that you'd have to use whatsapp web on a tablet. (select desktop view in the browser)

you could sideload the app (download apk from apkmirror) and input the text code sent to your phone but then you would get conflicts on the messages between two devices which is not ideal.

How does the Bush compare to the Fire 10"? I believe the Fire can be easily adapted to use Google Play Store. €189.99 in Currys and Argos.

The only time I ever got dodgy crap coming up on my phone was when I installed viber. Can't even remember what it was. Think I was getting iffy message and stuff. Got rid and hasn't been an issue.

Does WhatsApp not need a phone number, so a sim card? How does it activate on a tablet and what number shows for you? Edit. Glasso has the info in their post.

I have Whatsapp on my PC. Works ok - a bit slow to load sometimes, doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the phone version - but I use it only occasionally anyway. It's useful for displaying links that people send you on Whatsapp - a 24 inch screen is better sometimes than a 5 inch one!

Are you sure it's Viber you installed? Doesn't sound like it. I just prefer it, because it works on multiple platforms, and unlike WhatsApp, it works on any platform even if your mobile is off or has no signal.

Similar specs, but once you're up into the €200 bracket, there's a few more options to consider.

Looks good. Out of stock though in the 3 European hubs, only stock available is from the China warehouse

    Edit:
Just found it's newer brother the T20 for 188. Not sure where it ships from though.

could always try gearbest. I've heard that using priority line shipping can mean that you don't get hit by customs. not sure if that still holds tho.

    https://www.gearbest.com/tablet-pcs/pp_690462.html?wid=1433363

170 euro there so if you go hit by customs you'd probably be looking at another 40 euro.

for the quality of the really high-res screen, general build and lightness for the size, battery life and 64gb rom, 4gb ram - would still not be a bad deal at 210 euro.

I'm in the market for a tablet myself, preferably sub 200, but could go a little over if needs be. How does the Samsung Galaxy Tab A T580 stack up against what people are talking about here? I've seen it for less than 200 in a few places.

pretty slow cpu (only 40,000 on antutu where the teclast one would be near 80,000) , only 16gb internal which means that even using sd card you won't be able to install many apps (as internal memory still used for part of apps). 2gb ram not a lot these days.

will be ok for basic stuff like web browsing and media watching where you're not installing many apps.

anything like higher end android games won't work.

screen nowhere nears as good as the teclast either.

Sure the Teclast be stronger, but the t580 does play games, pretty much most of them decent enough still, i'd check on battery too as the t580 is not bad at all in that field either. It is an older generation for sure but has good built quality. It all depends on what you like to use it for.

Thanks Glasso and Stefan_Cork for taking the time to reply.

After friend recently got the Tab A T580 with case and anti virus software for 200 (back up to 230 now)

Have to admit after reading a few reviews I had my heart set on a Fire HD, but when looking at the specs I was somewhat disappointed (price point aside). When it comes to tech my expectations aren't that high, but I have to admit I'm surprised at how much can be crammed into a phone but with so much more real estate in a tablet the processing power seems comparatively low.

as I said if all you need is a tablet for basic stuff it will do the job.

people will pay more for phones in general (probably because it's the one piece of tech that people always have with them).

the amount that people will pay for tablets is less for the most part. that's why they don't get the higher spec cpus or even as much ram as that increases the cost.

that teclast is a good deal for what you're getting. another one to consider in that size is the mi pad 4 plus - recommended retail is 300 euro tho - not sure what the lowest price you could get it for. it has a snapdragon 660 and 4gb ram - a powerful enough combo.

the smaller mi pad 4 has the same specs in a smaller 7.9 inch size for cheaper. (about 200 euro)
