Hi guys. For various reasons I need to get into bord bia and the sooner the better as I have 8bullocks i want to send to the factory. I rang them and they can do an audit on Thursday morning. My question is as a new member what do I need?? He seemed fairly relaxed and said all I would need really is my herd register and my remedies for the past 6months. Is that enough? Also do I need receipts from the vets agri stores etc as I'm fairly sure some of that is still down with our accountant. So I'm trying to see if Thursday is a viable option.
All the threads I'm seeing on bord bia is for existing members that's why it's a new thread!! Thanks all.

I joined about a year ago, the audit wasn’t too bad. Had a walk round the farm and make notes, gave me 18 months to repair some cubicles, checked where silage runoff was going. Checked to see all medicines were labelled and stored in a locked cabinet.
Then it was onto the paperwork, I have one excel sheet that I keep everything on but it’s basically a copy of the paper version you would have gotten from them. So medicine purchases, medicine administration, feed purchased and a register of all animals. All stuff you should have anyway. No mention of receipts from memory
    Good luck with it

Thanks for that. That's helpful. I'll get on to the feed company and get the receipt emailed in case it has gone to the accountants. Spent a busy night tidying up stuff outside and have to fill in that farm safety statement as well. Hopefully all will be in order! I heard they aren't too bad with new entrants so fingers crossed!!

I'm in the same position as you. Quick question though. Do you know whether stock are considered quality assured as soon as you are approved, or do you have to wait 70 days for them to be in a 'quality assured' herd?

    TIA...

Yeah it takes around 6weeks to get QA status and then they are to the best of my knowledge .I explained to the auditor I needed QA status as soon as possible as I'm sending some animals to the factory. I'll know for Deff tomorrow morning-if you want to pm me I'll let you know how it went and what I was asked!!

Thanks alps-we are first timers so I don't think (pray) that all of the above is required!

Where did you get that idea, I'd say that 'is the first timers list.
Last penalty I got was for not having the livestock trailer washed, the previous was not dosing the cats, none of which is on that list

Yeah, get a receipt for the dosing of any cats and dogs you have on the farm and a map showing the placement of any bait points you have around the housing.

Tbh, a receipt for cat dosing is much easier when you are asked about pest control.

Right based on the above we are fecked! Can they penalise us for stuff we did when not in bord bia?? He told me over the phone I needed to have the herdbooj right and the medicine and feed and that was most of it.....we have machines in the fields with cattle and don't have records of worn dose off the vet(we actually just did them!) sure I'll see how I go tomorrow I really hope he won't have to come back again as I don't have the time to be taking off work!!! My dads being shipped out of here so he doesn't insult the inspector lol!!
I don't even have a bord bia book like so how can I fill it in??

Any of them that called to me were young (to my age they were) and came from a farming background
It’s amazing what a cup of Barry’s and the chocolate bikkie can do.!!!

    Best of luck.
    You will be fine.

You will be also be asked for a Farm Safety Risk Assesment.

    This can be done on-line.

Having the medicine book upto date is key. Make sure that if animals are sold and others were dosed around the selling date that it's clear what was and what was not dosed. The dosing the dog is a common one now to be listed. Can't be seen to having everything right. Sure as long as you pass, a few minor ticks is no problem.

Don't worry about machinery, you'll have time to get that sorted after. Sort the movements and medicines as best you can for now and sort out the issues he comes up with when the inspection is over. In dairy, you get 4 weeks to sort out non compliances so I'm assuming it's similar in beef?

Honestly if I have to wait that 4weeks I'll be in a bit of bother as have animals I need to go to the factory so here is hoping. We don't usually finish but with the prices the way they are in the Mart it's the only way to go.I'm confident those two things are right as i do it all through herdwatch. Sure I'll know on the morning-I'll throw on a sneaky fry and that might help!
Thanks for everyone's help thou-ye have been invaluable as always :)

Usually pretty simple to pass.Think they have to have a failure rate of 5% or somewhere near that to make it look like they are the real thing rather than the window dressing that it actually is

Most of the stuff is made up and you will find that the inspector will look for something different every 18 months just so as nobody gets 100% in A,B and C.
Thats the reason for the trailer washing, cat dosing, machinery in field etc etc. They will tell you to think of something to pull you back on if they are unable to come up with a plausible reason themselves.
Seemingly it's not good to get 100% in all the bits as that must mean you are doing too good a job.
For example (not trying to best Wrangler!!) last one here docked me 5% on not having a bait plan despite me showing it to him at the table and also on something in the medicine register that even the Dept doesn't require (escapes me for the moment). He freely admitted to me that he was just trying to balance the books re percentages etc etc.

Think you now get a grace period with cattle/sheep.Previously if you failed you were gone that day unlike dairy which seems to have always had that grace period.
