Dentist appointments (originally from UK)

Hi, I moved to Ireland from the UK back in November 2017.

I have yet to visit a Dentist and wondered if anyone could offer any advice?

I am currently unemployed but not on any benefits (I don't think I'm allowed any?).

I need to book an appointment for a check-up, I noticed I have got quite a bit of plaque build-up.

So basically I'd like to know if I can just turn up for an appointment, or do I have to be on some sort of list?
In the UK, you had to be on an NHS list for cheaper dental treatment.

I've heard about Medical Cards, but I don't think I can apply for one.

Also I was wondering what sort of costs to expect for a typical check-up? (based on the fact that I don't have a Medical Card or anything at this stage).

I'd assume the checkup may include the removal of plaque as there isn't much?

Any help or advice is very welcome.

You will need to call up a dentist and arrange an appointment.
    Where are you located?

    Thanks, I'm in Roscommon.

Do you know if charges for check-ups are the same regardless of any Medical Cards etc? Or perhaps this depends on the Dentist Practice?

Dentists display their prices... just have a look at your local dentists website/waiting room...

Thanks, so it seems pretty straight-forward.
