Trying to figure out how much freight insurance costs and for the life of me can't figure it out. Here on this website https://www.goodada.com/us/freight-insurance-cover-faq they give an example of 0.25 per $100 of value. Would 0.25 be a common rate used?

That would be about correct.

eg Container with $80,000 worth of goods, the insurance for the shipping journey over and aboard the relatively low insurance of the shipping company from say Hong Kong to Dublin port would be about $200.

Think of it as a marine cargo version of car excess insurance.
