When do I start building my no claims after an accident?

I had a minor accident in 2013. Seemed like a nothing incident but a few months later I received solicitors letters for injuries to 3 passengers.

At this stage, I had renewed with a different insurance company and have renewed with that company every year since (5 years). The claim with my old insurer only closed in February of this year. (They all got nice handouts).

My question is, do I start accruing a no claims the day after the incident? the day I renew my policy after the incident? Or is it as soon as the claim is closed?

I have 5 years of no claims with my current insurer but I'm a little concerned to shop around as my claim only closed this year.
