Are you guys vetting these people at all, the county council guy....could his answers be any shorter, less useful, like his typing word quota was five words in between naps at work or something.

Micro picture man??? Or whatever he was, it's deleted now is it, I don't see it, did he show you a picture of a camera as validation?

Plus it's an AMA, stop sucking the life out of the forum by deleting every non relevant question or whats wrong with ye!?

    That is all.

Not that you'll listen as usual.

He got nuked form orbit for either being a spoofer or a mentalist. I genuine wish I knew which one it was. I kind of wish it wasn't deleted just to see where it was going to go.

Yes we vet these people, however if someone volunteers to answer questions we don't ask them for sample answers in advance. People are giving up their free time, if they only have time for short answers or that is their writing style there isn't much we can do about that. However point taken, I can advise in future that longer/fuller answers work better for everyone.

As I said above we do vet the AMAs in advance, however on this occasion while I did check some of the person's credentials I didn't ask for samples of work which would have helped and I take full responsibilty for that. I'm usually quite rigorous about getting proof from participants so I'm annoyed with myself about that one, it won't be happening again.

There are a few reasons I/we remove some questions - if they are irrelevant to the subject that the person volunteered to talk about, they are trying to poke fun at the volunteer or it is something that the person is likely to be uncomfortable with. They are there to answer questions about a specific thing whether that is their job, a hobby, an experience.

If you get a feel for the person through their answers and think they can take a joke then fine but when the first question (as on yesterday's AMA) is about a porn scenario, it's not setting a great tone for the rest of the AMA and is reducing the person's job to some sort of joke. We (us and users) need to make people feel as welcome and as comfortable with an AMA as we can so that they and the readers get the most out of it.

Thanks for your feedback Kuva, we'll definitely be more alert with regard to proof before setting up AMAs and I'll recommend that longer answers where possible work better. I'm glad you generally enjoy the AMAs, I enjoy setting them up and seeing them work too. Volunteers seem to enjoy the experience as well so it's a win-win.

I think the clue is in the name... Ask Me Anything.

They are free to answer or ignore any question they want.
