Dog Food for Shelter Puppy

I posted earlier about getting a shelter pup of between 4 - 6 month old. We started with Arden Grange Puppy Food and in the days following she had diarrhea with blood. Brought her vet who provided treatment for colitis and recommended her to have diet of chicken and rice for few days.

We did this and then slowly introduced the dry food, when she was on the dry food alone she had really bad diarrhea again.

Have gone back to rice and chicken but am wondering if anyone can recommend a good food for puppies with sensitive tummies.

Vet couldn't give much advise on food just said maybe a hypo-allergenic food.

Any help or advice on good dog food would be very much appreciated.

I had the same with a puppy about 6 weeks ago. Vet recommended when re introducing the dog nuts to steep them in hot water to make something approaching weetabix consistency, I kept her on this for maybe a week and then slowly started adding less and less water, worked a charm for my little lady

Poor little mite. I use Burns sensitive dried food for my dogs. They fart for Ireland on Arden Grange for some reason.
also if changing a dogs food it is best to do it little by little - as in half old food half new food so the stomach doesn't react badly if the pupper has a sensitive stomach.

we had a similar experience with our little one, We got her checked and they said to keep her away from Grain foods, so we just feed her Gold Standard brand, Duck and Vegetable and it worked a treat, Its the Maxi pet own brand, and it says sensitive on the pack, Its great and we have had no accidents since she started eating it, I think you can get a free sample pack in-store to try it out, hope your little one is ok soon and keep us posted

instant changeover from any food to another is a no no for any dog puppy or otherwise

gradually introduce the new food over a period of 2 weeks by adding to whatever food dog is used to

I use burns sensitive. My dog thrives on it.

Changing food should be done slowly. Integrating a little of the new food at a time.

Never had an issue with her gut since and she loves the burns.
