1000 mb fibre is now available in our area so we will switch to either DigiWeb or Vodafone soon for broadband.

The mother wants want the upgrade. She is currently with Eir for TV, broadband and phone.

What do people recommend between Vodafone and Virgin TV ?

Which is the better service and which is the easiest user interface?

Also any difference in their phones ?

Vodafone is a better interface for now.
Vodafone have the best Mobile phone coverage bar none

Vodafone is a no brainer if you're getting gigabit speeds

Can you explain how it is the better interface?

I was leaning towards Virgin because of their catch up service.

Also can you tell me why Vodafone is a no brainer for 1 GB fibre. I was told elsewhere that DigiWeb's router and tech support are better. Sales Support is a bit pants though.

The current Virgin Box is a very poor interface. its slow and sluggish. Vodafones channel lineup is smaller but the interface is more intuitive and quicker.

Vodafone and Virgin TV only run on their own networks, not over digiwebs. If you wanted broadband only then sure, go digiweb but for TV you have to go with the same provider.

Do you mean if I choose Vodafone for TV then I should go with them for broadband too?

true, The horizon box will work connected to the coaxial and the othe rinternet woulde be seperate fiber.
Youd be loosing out on any deals for TV and broadband. But technically yes, you could split it out.

Do not touch the virgin horizon box. It is rubbish. Absolutely useless...the lag on it is ridiculous. It chooses not to record programmes at times.
    Pure junk.

This makes things difficult then because I told the DigiWeb router (and service in general) is far superior to Vodafone.

Recording won't be used much to be honest.

Is the lag you mention what Wabitt Ears says about slow and sluggish?

What is it slow at? Changing channels and between apps, etc?

    Have you been a customer?

Okay. Vodafone TV doesn't seem great either, but I'm being encourage towards DigiWeb so Vodafone TV isn't an option anyway.

I'll have ask for people I know who have Virgin TV and see it in action, but if Virgin is that bad then the only alternative is Sky.

Anyway thanks for bringing the issue to my attention.

We are on our 3rd box and the problems are still there. You press +channel on the remote and 3 seconds later the channel changes. Sometimes you press on to a channel and the screen goes black. You have to either go up or down a few channels and come back to the one you wanted.
Recently the sound and the voices on screen are all out of sync so it looks like bad dubbing watching anything. The remote decides each day if it will work or not. Sometimes you try to type in the 3 digit channel code but it will only take the first 2 and then go to channel 000.
    The wifi range is pathetic.
It really is useless and your heart will be broken with it.

I'd class what you describe as a disaster. Do many people have this problem?

lets just say there are a small handfull of posters here who dislike Horizon with a vengence and are, ehh, disproportionally vocal about it.

Okay I lost track who was posting what and I thought post in question was actually you.

I'm straight on who said what now.

You called the Virgin Box slow and sluggish? Can you tell me more? Are you a current or past customer? What is it slow at doing exactly?

Jaysus it's more than a small handful. Boards, Twitter and Facebook all with people complaining about the Horizon box.
We visit the wife's parents every so often and they have Sky. It's do intuitive and the interface is clear and concise. No lag and a reliable hardware source.
