    I caught this mackerel in Fenit and when I started to fillet it this white ooze burst out. What the hell is it ...?

    That's not a Mackerel,looks more like a Herring, and the white stuff is most likely milt.

    Its a herring ,its very early yet for them off the shore usually late October when they arrive,where did you catch ?it if you don't mind me asking ,I have a friend commercial fishing out of Kilmore Quay and he was curious about it as its very early yet
