    Hi

As the title suggests.. Im importing a 1993 VW Bay/Split Hybrid from Brazil. Im trying to figure out what VRT im going to pay. TO give a little more info. The Van is a Van. It has no back seats. It does however have all the windows you would expect to see in a VW Splitscreen and my ultimate goal is to convert it into a camper(eventually).

I'm finding it difficult to get any useful information from customs themselves. Im trying to figure out will it be considered a van and I get commercial vrt or will it be considered a car and pay normal VRT. OR can I somehow declare it commercial so that I pay the commercial which I believe is a flat 200 euro?

Any help would be greatly appreciated?

    Has anyone done something similar?

You won’t get €200 VRT (van) because of the rear side windows.

VET rate as a car would be based on co2 emissions as a percentage of whatever they reckon it’s worth registered.

So I wonder if it would be better to bring it in with all the seats in the back so it's effectively a minibus with 9 seats / seatbelts. Then it would be classes as category c which carries a flat €200 vrt from my understanding.

Then when I convert to a camper I will have to pay 13.5% vrt minus the €200 I've already paid

Does anyone know if I'm correct in my understanding?

There may be issues in terms of registering a minibus, seatbelt standards etc.

Revenue will value it as an Irish VW Kombi motorhome for VRT purposes. They aren't cheap so you'll be hit with a massive VRT bill which you have to pay and then try to appeal, which for motorhomes isn't easy.
