Sky+HD box HDMI output Resolution Question

I am not very familiar with the Sky box so hopefully someone can enlighten me ...

While 'playing' with the HDMI output resolution settings, I tested 1080, 720 and 576.

It appears that the 576 output in 4:3 only, regardless the channel original aspect ratio.

I presume this is correct and expected?
Is there any setting in the Sky box itself to alter this?

    Thanks.

You can only change pic resolution to 4:3 for rf out. with hdmi its as broadcast ie most is 16:9, with hdmi check your tv it should allow you to set resolution.
I'm using a pace hd box for sky and just tried it.

Well I have 4:3 output through HDMI. I set the option to SD/576.

The question is can I change something else so that I get a 16:9 output in SD?

    Apparently not.
I guess it is a conflict in terms really, and SD is only available in 4:3.

I thought there might be some setting in the Sky box that would output in the same AS (in SD resolution) as the source (generally 16:9).
