    Hi,

    Anyone know much about these?

Might be changing the car in a month or so and the last model 9-5 looks gorgeous, i really enjoyed my time with the 9-3.

Is there better value then in importing from the UK?

    Any guidance welcome!

Do they share the same engine issues with the Insignia I wonder?

I’d imagine the choice in Ireland is very limited.

Most of its dna is from the Insignia. Saab were struggling to stay afloat around the time the last 9-5 was developed and it was rushed into production in hope it would be Saab's saviour. Unfortunately as a result build quality on them was patchy and if your familiar with the Insignia then you'll recognise a lot of the interior bits even down to the steering wheel. Those for sale here tend to be priced high for some reason but they are much cheaper in the UK.

Sales of these must have barely been into the double digits unfortunately. Well minded ones will have some value in the future as the last of the lins for SAAB.

Last of the 9-5's had the FIAT 1.9 turbo diesel engine, way ahead of the Opel 2 litre.

Apart from a facelift wasn't the rest of the car pretty much the original spec from 1998. While I loved the look of the 9-3, never liked the 9-5.

The last of the 9-5 line was a very pleasing shape, but I'd worry about the interior being lifted from a GM parts bin.
Feel more like a GM equivalent Dacia!

I thought the '98 was just a bigger, ie mostly longer version of 9-3, whereas the new model is a different car. I cant remember what year it came out. In development it caused a huge row with GM as they didn't use enough GM parts, preferring to source all over the place, even insignificant items. Ref: Top Gear Saab Special programme.

The newest SAAB 95 came out in late 2010 and the last of them sold into very early 2012 before SAAB folded up in December 2011/Jan 2012.

Have you seen the last model estate model? There’s only a handful of development models around, but a few people have managed to register them and use them daily.

1.9 litre and 2.0 litre engines were both Fiat multijet derived engines. Opel reworked them for their cars and fitted them to Saab while under their ownership. The last 9-5 from 2010 used the 2.0 litre diesel engine from the likes of the Insignia, as by then the 1.9 was superseded by the 2.0 litre.

Here is a list of different cars fitted with that engine:

I drove one of the last 9-5 models when they were launched, and I really wanted to like it as it was a fantastic looking car, but alas, it wasn't great.
