Heard on radio MSL having a sale "this week only" on used Mercs.

I go to the website and, sure enough, some cars with red tags: "Prices reduced this week only". https://www.msl.ie/used/search

Only, the prices are not reduced. I know this because i have been looking at their website for a few weeks now, and i know the prices of a few cars, which have not changed at all.

    Tut, tut.

Ah yeah but the cost of the cars to them magically reduces for a week so they’ll be able to do CRAZY deals.
You’ve gotta rush though, if they don’t sell this week, they’ll sell them for more money next week. That’s just how it works.

I know where I’ll be going for my quality used Mercedes Benz. That’s right. MSL.

    Form an orderly queue please.

I'm surprised they didn't come out with a donedeal classic like they'll "scrap them if they don't get what they want" or "just testing the waters" as if they're sticking their fingers in a pool of piss.

Email them and tell them what you know. Complaining here does nothing to change that sort of carry on.

Not complaining, just trying to make people aware.

I emailed one of the dealerships. They gave me a waffle answer: "..not reduced further due to being best priced on line already..blah...blah".

I'd be forwarding that email on to advertising standards if that's true. Ridiculous carry on

Who will at best write a strongly worded letter telling them to remove the ads that were on the radio for a week 6 months previously.

Here's another very misleading advert from M&G.

EG. 151 520D with a saving of €30,693 over new. Except that it is not a new car it is a 3 year old car. The new car price is irrelevant.

The M&G figures aren’t incorrect and hardly misleading.

I disagree. It is misleading advertising to benchmark your saving against a new car, when the cars actual value is nowhere near it. You are not saving that amount at all.

They’re hardly passing off the 3 year old car as a new car though. What you don’t spend you save.

Well I think it is meaningless. It would be far more useful to see what the actual discount against the previous price.

Here is a nice old 520i, saving €40k!

Ahhh buy you don't save on the tax though, you'll be forking nearly a grand over 10 years on that

You can't really have a sale on a used item , car or anything. e.g. a new tv that that is €799 in most
of the electrical outlets, then one of them has a sale and sells the tv for €729, and its still €799 in the other outlets, thats a sale . A used item does not have an RRP to have a sale on. There is no such thing as a sale on used cars, its just a marketing too!.
