    Hi

I recently contacted Eir to get my iPhone 7 plus unlocked.
They sent me details of how to get it unlocked, so apparently
when i connect my phone to iTunes with a new sim from a different carrier
the phone will be unlocked but then my phone will lock to that carrier?

Surely thats not correct i taught when you get your phone unlocked its
now unlocked to any carrier at any time? As i done many times before.

Is this a new thing with Eir?

    Thanks

I’ve seen this before that should not happen when you unlock via iTunes. Have you tested with other sims?

This is the correct way as when your iPhone contacts the Apple Activation server your phone will have been set to unlock so it can activate with any new sim not one just from Eir. Your phone should not lock its self to new carrier it will be factory unlocked.

They always say this and send a ridiculous email out about connecting to iTunes and "Bricking" the phone.

I have never done it (don' even use iTunes) and never had a problem.

Put a different sim in and it worked fine.

It's total rubbish from Eir and I have emailed them about it.

I just received the email from eir so haven't tried any sims yet.
I have unlocked iPhones before with meteor and it was unlocked all the time.

Now with this email it says different

Ahh i see, thanks for that.
Didn't want to put a new sim in and then become locked to that network.

Eir just won't be told how wrong they are. They must be 5/6 years peddling the same rubbish.

So it's safe to say if i put in a vodafone sim it won't lock to vodafone?
I can put back in my eir sim without any problems

Yes definitely. Eir are just spouting rubbish.

Sure who even uses iTunes nowadays to activate phones?

It will not be locked to the next sim. Once unlocked, it will be unlocked forever.
This is a standard email sent out by Eir, in fact its a legacy email since Meteor, and I and many others have posted about it when there was a Meteor forum, but they never bothered changing it.

All the iPhones I’ve carrier unlocked were fine bar one. An iPhone 4 I had years ago bought new on contract however what eir stayed was true for that phone. It kept locking to the sim I had in it and I had to restore and connect to iTunes each time I wanted to use a new carrier it was a pain in the hole.
