I'm using 12.04 as my lab desktop and need to burn a few Pi images, and having successfully imaged one via my usb reader, I can't get it to detect a new memory card.

when I run lsusb the devices are listed but the memory (micro SD card) is not being detected, it was previously working and I may have removed the usb stick without properly shutting down the port.

    I've tried unbind/bind but it didn't fix.

    :/sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd# lsusb

    Any help much appreciated.

Fixed this by adding the host connected usb device to one of my KVM vm's.
