Hi all, myself and my partner are hoping to go to Dubrovnik next April / May.

Any recommendations of areas to stay in? Any suggestions of must see things would be great also!

Avoid the old city (inside the walls) between about 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.. Cruise ships call to the port and drop off thousands of visitors, most of them get bussed or catch taxis to the old city.

Take a water taxi to Cavtat , it a lovely area and great restaurants .The trip is along the coast and well worth it .

In Cilipi village ( not the airport but the nearby village ) they have a fabulous traditional dance every Sunday

We’ve just returned from 5 days there. We stayed in the Valamar President Dubrovnik, it’s pricey but there’s a beech out the back and a lovely spa with indoor and outdoor pool. There are other Valamar hotels around it that also have access to the private beech which are less expensive. It’s about 15 minutes outside of the old town which can be accessed by bus or taxi. I’d recommend a taxi as the bus can be very crowded. The old town is lovely but as has been said either go in early in the morning or evening to miss the crowds from the cruise ships

I was there in April this year, first day was great, second day cruise ships were in & the old town was packed!
It's a great place, really lovely. We didn't bother walking the walls, 20 Euro if you want to, but the cable car up the hill above the city is 20 Euro & better value imo.
There's also a smaller castle on a hill next to old town ( can't remember name) & you can get great views & pics from there.
We stayed beside the port area, which was OK, 10 mins on bus to old town. If I was staying longer I would stay out on the peninsula area, which I don't remember the name either! But has lovely hotels & beachy areas & lots of restaurants/bars.
It's a beautiful place, but expensive!
Might be worth taking a trip to mostar or Sarajevo depending on how long you are staying.
Personally I love kotor bay, south of Dubrovnik , been there few times.

Get uber, uber in Croatia is brilliant!

Great city, but go early to avoid city crowds.

If you're there long try a day trip to mostar in Bosnia.
