    Hi all
How do you find a catholic priest for your wedding?

Local priest doesn't travel. Priest of the parish we are having it in won't do it. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Ask either of them for suggestions.

Have the church bit in your local church instead of remote.

Ask a former parish priest who you are friendly with.

Look up other churches where you know there are multiple priests living and ask them.

Consider skipping the church bit totally and just having a civil service.I

They’re very busy there’s so few of them. The priest attached to the church you want to get married in doesn’t know either of you or your families so he’s not getting on board.
Unless someone you know is very friendly with or has a close relationship with a priest then I’d say your looking at rethinking your wedding day plans.

The priest of the parish that either of you is living in will find it hard to refuse to marry you, if you marry in that parish. But he is not obliged or expected to travel to another parish to marry you, and priests from parishes that you don't live in are also not obliged or expected to marry you. The general expectation is that you should marry in the parish in which you live.

Failing that, it's worth trying parishes with which you have a connection - e.g. the parish you were brought up in, the parish your parents live in.

Any priests in the family or perhaps some friends might have priests in their family.

Maybe contact the diocese for guidance. They might have a list of obliging priests that you could ring.

Have you booked the church? Usually they'll tell you when you book the church who the resident priest is or who you need to contact to arrange a wedding there. If it's a church with no full time priest then there's usually one in the diocese who covers it.

Failing that, you need to swap your location to one that has a priest and availability to conduct the ceremony.

Church is booked alright. But neither my parish priest or it's priest will oblige. I could possibly get a deacon to do it but I'd prefer a priest. Good idea to ring the diocese and see what they think

Do you know a deacon? A deacon can stand in for a priest in the sacrament of matrimony. A priest isn’t necessary. But a deacon can’t say mass so it would just be the matrimony bit.

Yes if we get stuck but I'd prefer a priest if at all possible
