I've just discovered my Virb is not charging most likely was sitting in the drawer for too long and the battery self discharged below critical level.

Can I borrow someone's battery for Saturday? I'm happy to collect from Dublin area.

I’ve a gen 1 virb. If that’s the battery you need you’re more than welcome to it. I haven’t used it in years but I’ll see if I can find it tonight and charge it. See what it holds.

You can revive your dormant pack by shorting it with another briefly. Then the charger will pick it up and do the rest.

Good tip! I was thinking of brute charging with 5V adapter but worried that it may not have internal protection, but charging with another Li-ion should offer good voltage :)

(just need to find the +/i contacts, there are five....)

I think the key here is 'briefly'. The internal protections mightn't kick in as there wouldn't be enough heat yet.

That said, even if you do get it to take a charge, it may not hold as much or retain it very long.

The problem with Virb is that the battery has to have enough charge to power the device for the charging process to start... On a second thought, I think I will try to wire it to another li-ion battery charger (for Fuji camera that uses the same voltage of the pack) and see how it handles it......

The protection circuit kicks in before it drops too low and disconnects the cell so it sits pretty much at that point. Its not the best for the cell but it shouldn't be wrecked.

A 5v source would be fine, I've used 12v before too. You're just getting it up to about 2.5v or a little higher. In some cases warming the pack is enough, this is very handy for the likes of tablets (hot water bottle, 20 mins, connect charger).

Just a heads up my virb battery is dead. Put it on charge but it's not holding anything once plugged out. Sorry Alek.

I've managed to get the battery revived by hooking to an external Li-ion charger - thanks for the tip guys!! :D

Still not too sure if it is going to hold charge, so met Weepsie this morning and collected a spare one - mucho gracias dude!
