    Hi all.

Getting married in 2020 and looking at wedding bands at the moment and have come across Black Tye. Was just wondering if anyone had any feedback on them or had booked them for their own wedding?

    Thanks in advance:)

We had them for our wedding a couple of weeks ago, they were absolutely fantastic, had the floor hopping all night! We had a big wedding with a good mix of young and old so we were conscious of needing a band who could cater to all tastes and Blacktye definitely do this.
Found them really good to deal with too.

I have the booked for December.

Innervision, did you have much input on the setlist given you wanted a diverse range of music or did you just let them read the room?

Most weddings bands prefer a bit of guidance, say "no ed sheeran" or "play a bit more indie/rock/country"

But if what you think will work aint working and you've given the band specific instructions then theyll stick to it whether its working or not. Blacktye know their business well

I have yet to give them any form of guidance but I guess I'll be in touch closer to the date. I don't plan on saying much more than "Please try not to play song x, y and z" because I'm not a fan. Or "We'd like a bit of trad and aren't overly bothered with waltzes".

Are you saying Blacktye know their business well and their business is pleasing their client?

Or are you saying Blacktye know their business well so you shouldn't go overboard with the guidance as it would limit their freedom?

Both really, theyre established a long time and so keeping client happy is a large part of being in business and getting follow on recommendations.

Definitely liaise with them and let them know your thoughts but from my own experience it can go horribly wrong for a dancefloor when a client does go overboard. Not every time mind you but if youre handed a playlist with 30-40 songs on it and told not to deviate (which does happen, I have one next week) theres no scope to employ your own experience in deciding if a change in genre would be more suitable for the room theyre playing to.

Does that explain? Definitely speak to them about any specific preferences though.

Yeah I'd echo what clint_silver said, we discussed briefly what kind of crowd would be there etc, e.g. they asked if we wanted a few waltzes thrown in at the start and I asked them to do loads of their 90s stuff towards the end but didn't get more specific than that. I've seen them at two weddings before ours and they were great at reading the crowd at those too.
I should mention we also had them DJ as well afterwards, we had a couple of specific songs we asked them to play for that.

That's all good to hear. I think we'll be giving minimal instructions. Maybe "Here's a few songs from your setlist that we really like so it'd be nice to get them in". And then just a breakdown of the expected attendees and what we assume they'd like to hear (e.g. age breakdown and how we would like a trad session but keep country/waltzes to only a few songs if possible).

We also have them to DJ later too and will be a bit more involved in that. We'll be asking for quite a few Brazilian tunes as that's where my OH is from.

Haven't seen them live, they looked really great in their videos but did have issues with communication unfortunately when we went to try book them - delays in response and not providing info required when requested. Didn't end up getting to book them due to this, was disappointing. It's dog eat dog when booking a band so recommend acting fast if you want them.

Thanks for all the replies! Still haven't booked a band 🙈 we had decided we like pink champagne because they have a good mix of music and we love the old school dance music they do, but unfortunately they were booked!
Since then we've come across The Pearls who seem to have the same kind of music and also the Pat Fitz Band who are both available on our date. I love Pats voice but from what I've seen online he doesn't seem to do much modern music or old school dance songs in his wedding music videos.has anyone any experience of either of these bands? Thanks in advance for any help :)

Pat has a huge range of music that he can play. Hit him a message and ask him, I"m pretty sure he can cover most styles. I've seen him numerous times and he always had the floor full and played to the room.

Thanks for that unclebill98 that's good to know, any video I've seen of his wedding material tended to be older music so I wasn't sure about him when I haven't seen him in person. He does seem to have a fantastic way with the crowd from what I've seen!

Hi guys. Just a quick question. Is €3500 considered too much in your opinion for the cermony music, pre dinner reception music, post dinner band, and DJ set?

That's what I'm looking at and wonder is that the standard when to factor in everything? Thanks

Probably not too high. Each part of it is a cost. Ceremony musicians run from 2-300 more for popular singers. If you have a singer and piano player that’s say 500.

Pre dinner reception same thing. (Is that needed) another 500.

Really good band and DJ Easily cost 2500.

I’d suggest haggle if they’re all the one provider but you’re not being done there.

There’s cheaper options available for all those choices but you usually get what you pay for there.

Is that a quote from Blacktye? If so there should be a detailed breakdown of the package explaining where your money is going and should make it easier to see if it's good value.

No not from Blacktye. A band we really like are quoting us this figure. I'm happy enough to pay it as they're providing us music for the whole day. Just was curious to know the averages of these things
