You'll generally get a much better deal with the online traders like laptops direct. For example I picked up a lenovo with an i5 processor and a 128gig ssd for just under 500.

I would rather have the one you posted originally than either of those. The first Elite Book is ancient. And the second isn't exactly great either, and Medion wouldn't exactly have the best reputation.

The Curry's machine has quite good spec, the AMD processor is actually very good and is comparable to the i5 in the Medion above. It will run your python/database/java stuff with ease and it'll even game to really reasonable degree. The drawbacks are the lack of SSD storage and the 4GB of RAM. But you can upgrade both of these easily enough in the future if you need.

Has it dispatched? If not, I'm sure you could cancel your order, and it cant be a big job to return it altogether?

The Elitebook will do you fine for any programming tasks. Yes its 4 years old but its specs are still grand for what you'll use it for.

Note: I thought the 256gb was an SSD, but its a hard drive. Not a whole lot of space so would recommend upgrading it later to an SSD for better performance. When it comes to IDE's such as eclipse and Netbeans etc.. I find they load a lot better on SSD's.

Yeah it was dispatched a few hours ago. Is the laptop that bad lads? Or is it just the fact that it's a few years old? Don't mind how old it is if it runs the software I need for college

Just be careful with the screen size make sure programming on it is comfortable, get a feel for the keyboard and be 100% sure you like it, keep all packaging and take care when removing it. If you aren't satisfied with it then you have a 14 day cooling off period to return it.

Just remember you have to pay the return postage. But if your not happy with it then it's an option.

If you do decide to go for another laptop look along the lines of the Lenovo IdeaPad's the 320 15 is a very sleek laptop and again perfect for college programming.

main issue imo with the old elitebook will be that the screen will be pretty bad by today's standards.

Just FYI. Thanks to the EU, when purchasing products online you have the right to send it back within 14 days of receiving it. I'm not sure whether you can even open it. But if that's still what you want to do you can.

The Elitebook will be fine. If you can return it I would, but if not then so be it. It'll do what you want, it just wasn't the best choice in the world.
