Neighbours extension

Our neighbours are building an extension on to their house, we presume a one storey extension as we have bungalows and they haven't applied for planning. We have no idea what they plan to do and to be honest it doesn't bother me what they do out their back as it shouldn't affect us anyway. However today I noticed at the side of the house they are cutting away a large rectangular shape directly across from our ensuite window. There is probably about two and a half metres between our houses. I'm wondering is this allowed?? Surely they can't just put a window or door in overlooking us?
    Thanks a mil 😊

if its on the ground floor, then they pretty much can....in most circumstances it would be considered exempt, as long as the window is more than 1.0m from the boundary it faces

the boundary between the two houses should be high enough to prevent overlooking. Even a 1.8m fence here would suffice.

They might be just doing drainage ? Have you considered talking to them?

We got a message to say they are extending the house Bryan. If only they were the kind you could talk to!! These are the kind of neighbours who complained about our dogs looking through the fence at them !!!
