Wedding Dessert

    Hello all,

Myself and my partner will be getting married next May in Dublin.
One thing we havent decided on (well one of many!) is what do about dessert.
We've been humming and hawing over what to do, one Idea was for my partners Mam to make a cake in my parents house (her folks will be flying in) but my folks kitchen wouldnt be the best equipped for it unfortunatly.

A guy in work recently got married and gave every guest a cupcake in a small cardboard box, so they could eat it there or take it away with them.

After mentioning the above to my partner we both really like the idea.
Either giving people some doughnuts or cupcakes, or both!

Does anyone know somewhere, preferably in Dublin that would do something like that, or even if someone could recommend a good bakery that would and we could do the packaging ourselves... I mean I'll be doing the packaging :D

    Thanks for your help!

Our cake table was made up by The Cupcake Bloke. He met with us and designed some new cupcakes, pies and other mini delicacies for us. They went down an absolute storm, highly recommended.

Are you having a reception in hotel / restaurant?
Why not just have normal dessert?
Are you getting a wedding cake? Most places will also slice up the cake and serve it during the tea/coffee too.
I really wouldn't leave a cupcake in a box. No one wants to carry additional stuff after the meal. I've seen so many favours / cakes just abandoned on tables after a wedding!

    Hi whiskeyman,

Yes we are having the reception in a hotel in town.
I'm pretty certain that as part of the meal we will be getting a normal dessert.
No we arent getting a wedding cake, this would be instead of getting a wedding cake. Ah well if they leave them behind, more for us!

Thread title is confusing - your looking for wedding cake alternatives or just bakers that make cupcakes?

We didn't have a cake at all. Or see the need for favours to take home. Put the money behind the bar, people don't really care about cake.

Oh we would be completely open to other suggestions, we just quite like that idea.

If your getting married in a hotel keep the dessert to whatever options are in your wedding package.

Your OHs family might love cake but theyll probably want to eat them at the wedding. I think cake as a wedding favour may end up with a lot of waste if your planning a traditional Irish wedding.

I would suggest a treat table with cupcakes (like B&C suggested), and maybe a small amount of boxes for some guests to bring some home.

We are going with a cheese cake from Sheridans.

    The way I figure it;

-based on previous parties/get togethers, all our friends LOVE cheese.
-neither of us really like cake that much
    - we figure everyone will have a desert with the meal anyway, so it would effectively be 2 deserts.

If you're determined for something sweet, I did see someone doing a doughnut thing at a wedding fair I was at a while back (the one fab day fair). I think it was pain sugared doughnuts with various options for guests to cater to their own taste (jam, chocolate, salted caramel etc). I've been at a good few weddings wtih cupcakes but I've not actually seen the doughnut idea in real life yet so might be more novel.
