So I have a 2006 Celica and Iv gone and bought a stereo from the Toyota gt86. Lovely touch screen etc and fits perfectly. Connected up the wires etc all good. Turned it on all working fine.

Then I paired my phone and it connected no problem. Only problem is it keeps saying no microphone connected! I can make calls, hear the person etc but they can't hear me.

So obviously the gt86 has a built in mic. The Celica doesn't! I have a mic from an old Bluetooth set I had but there is no where to plug it into the back of the stereo....

So what are my options??? Badly stuck on this one and really want to get it working!

    Thanks

What does the black plug feed, GPS antenna ?

An oem Toyota mic might not have a standard jack connection (don't know)

At best you'll have to find out which wire(s) going inot the headunit loom come from the mic on a gt86 and splice into them.

Headunit looks well , doesn't look out of place at all.

    A quick google says this..
    1- EMPTY
    2- Reverse Signal (Red Wire)
    3- EMPTY
    4- Overhead Microphone (MACC) Black
    5- Overhead Microphone (MIN+) White

    6- Ground (SNS2) Black/White
    7- EMPTY
    8- EMPTY
    9- EMPTY
    10- EMPTY
    11- Stereo Jack (AGND)
    12- EMPTY
    13- EMPTY
    14- EMPTY
    15- EMPTY
    16- EMPTY
17- Vehicle Speed Sensor (Violet Wire)
    18- Overhead Microphone (MIN-) Red
    19- Overhead Microphone (SGND)

    20- EMPTY
21- Steering Wheel Switch (SW1) White
22- Steering Wheel Switch (SW2) Red
23- Steering Wheel Switch (SWG) Black
    24- EMPTY
    25- Stereo Jack (AUXI) Red
    26- Stereo Jack (ARI) White
    27- Stereo Jack (ASGN) Red
    28- Stereo Jack (ALI) Black

I think the tidiest option would ber getting a GT86 mic from a dealer and one of those 28 pin block connectors.

I asked toyota today. The mic is built into the car.... I have a mic from my old Bluetooth kit so if I was sure which two wires to join into I'd do it. Seem to be 4 pins there referring to the mic!

Is it just the plus and minus one I'm joining too?

That I don’t know. It’s quitw possible there are 4 pins because the factory mic has two mics for noise cancelling. I really don’t know.

Its an electret condenser mic so has + - and signal ground , no idea what the MACC signal is but it may be a power output for accessory etc.. probably wouldnt tap it,

The old mic you have probably only has + and - which is no use , you can get a gt86 mic from toyota to do a pin for pin install

Edit : , yep looked it up its balanced with a 5v preamp circuit on it , MACC is 5 vold , SGND is signal ground and + and - are balanced audio,
    https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=114212

Youre going to end up building a balanced output circuit and a preamp to use your existing mic.

A lot of guys fitting aftermarket headunits are all ditching the OEM mic as it wont work, maybe ask on some forums if anyone will just give you one / sell for cheap

Eric thanks a million for that. At least now I know where I'm going with it. Will try a few breakers for a mic. Cheers man ðŸ‘

Traynors have a 2012 GT86, they’ve advertised the radio from it on eBay, they may have the bits you need.

Link for reference, I’d say it’s the same unit you have?

you can buy the connector elsewhere, surely the microphone itself plugs out ?

edit : http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126113 yeah it plugs out and has a few inches of cable on its side, theres no loom ruining there....

double edit : the microphone on the Prius is the same one with a different housing, may be easier to find.
