What's the cheapest way to buy a new car- online car buyer, broker, dealer etc?

I've never bought a new car before so never had to choose optional extras - which extras are the most useful to have?

Currently cheapest would be from the North/UK. Check carzon.ie and autodrader.co.uk and compare prices. If you go with car from UK convert price to euros, go to VRT Calculator and check how much the tax will be. Put another €1000-€1500 on top of the price of the car with VRT and that should give you a good estimate.

If importing focus on big dealerships, research the warranty, do the motorcheck - more info in the Importing Cars from UK section of this forum.

Well I'd wait til January for a start.
No real online brokers here so you will be simply pricing dealers against each other.

Dont forget about the VAT for cars under 6 months and 3k km, so if going down the uk route maybe think about almost new rather than new (or do some calculations)

Almost, to be safe it should be more than 6000 km and more than 6 months old, so anything from 7months onwards will not come with the extra tax.

    Thanks for the replies.

The car is the unfortunately named new Peugeot Rifter.

I'm looking at the 130bhp diesel version for towing and overall power. It has a 6 speed manual or 8 speed auto gearbox - the auto does appeal but am I correct in saying automatic gearboxes are unsuitable for towing?

Meant to say it would be bought and kept in the UK.

Has anyone used Carwow? The buyer chooses the car and spec then dealers bid for the order.

Ah it's a different ballgame if it's a UK purchase.
Loads of brokers there as you say.
I wouldn't fear the auto for towing.

    Any thoughts on this?

The 6 speed manual has a towing capacity of 1500kg

The auto has a towing capacity of 1300kg

If you're planning on doing any sort of medium to heavy work neither will cut it tbh.

Where did you get the towing capacity figures from?
