    Does anyone know can the tv Licence center legally keep our details under the new European gdpr data base rules?

    Why wouldn't they? You're a customer and they need those details to provide a service (proving that your premises has a TV license).

    The lengths some people will go to.

    It's just an added tax, should be taken at source and be done with it in my opinion. Half the amount, but get it from everyone to cover the cost. Everyone's happy(people who work and pay it anyway, the only ones who matter.)

    A Television Licence is granted by the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and the Environment under section 143 of the Broadcasting Act 2009 (No. 18 of 2009) to a person to keep and have possession of a television set (within the meaning of section 140 of the Broadcasting Act 2009) in a premises or specified place in the State.

    At least one lawful basis appies for processing of our personal data in this case.
    Article 6(c) of the GDPR applies - legal obligation
    Also 6(d) Public task

    To answer your question - yes they can legally retain our personal data/details.

    I'd love to see a government with the balls to do that

    €120 broadcasting licence to every home in the country collected by revenue in the property tax. Just business users buy a licence separately

    Add in a €120 service fee for waste collection and you are supplied with a bin collection service and just pay extra for the physical waste collected and bring in extreme fines for dumping including destruction of any vehicle used for such dumping.



    Funny, the majority law abiding people would love this whereas the take take take brigade who want everything but contribute nothing would be up in arms.

    I have no problem with a Broadcasting Tax if the government also sorts out how that money is allocated to broadcasters and the BAI. RTÉ continues to have the best of both worlds and I question why we should allow this to continue?

    As for waste collection - whilst off-topic for this forum - I'm really against that idea as the competition in the private sector for waste collection has been fantastic for the end customer.
