    Hi folks,

Was interested in getting a set of Hids for the car but I'm not sure how it works on the whole legal side of things. Can anyone advise me firstly if they are legal and if so up to what brightness/intensity?

    Thanks

Please do not mount HID ballasts to reflector type headlights, as it blinds oncoming drivers even in dipped mode. Projector style headlight mounting should be okay, as long as their aligned correctly.

Maybe go for some LED bulbs?

Older Zafira’s had reclector style headlights, even if he bought the dearest set available they’d still throw the beam all over the place.

Aftermarket HID kits only work in projector lights.

I put LEDs into projector lens in a BMW f10, made a massive difference and sailed through nct.

    I got these https://www.powerbulbs.com/product/philips-x-treme-ultinon-led-headlamp-h7
But I only use my car off road :) , never had any problems.

HID's are legal and tend to pass NCT's if they're in projector lensed headlights accompanied by headlight washers.

I put those in the projectors in my Volvo V50, along with the matching canbus adapters. Made a massive difference to the light thrown on the road, and no one has flashed me. Don’t have another NCT until 2020, but in comparing the projected pattern to the original halogens, I don’t think I’ll hdve a problem.

Was getting them for my own car which I was advised won’t get through the nct.

I’ve opted for the 150% brighter bulbs as a result.
