Buying a car in Ireland for export to the UK

Some time ago it used to be cheaper for a UK resident to buy a new car in Ireland and import it in to the UK as the pre-tax price was lower. Is this still the case?

Some time ago it used to be cheaper for a UK resident to buy a new car in Ireland and import it in to the UK as the pre-tax price was lower.
