    hi all
i am thinking of buying shares in total energy as i believe they will buy a privately owned company called ionic materials. Ionic materials are developing a solid state polymer lithium battery that is safer and has more capacity than current lithium ion batteries.
Total have already invested money in ionic materials and are one of six companies to invest $65 million in ionic.
Tot has to get away from fossil fuels, with regard to the long term outlook, and it has a venture firm set up to invest in alternative technologies, through which it has invested in ionic materials.
what are your thoughts on this?
I have 5k which i can afford to loose doing this and i have never invested before, but i am keen to learn and try my hand at it, and any advice people would have on tax implications etc would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks.
