Pine doors to white...

    Hiya
The house we purchased a year ago has pine throughout....internal doors, stairs, skirting, floorboards etc. I would love to change the doors downstairs (and obviously the skirting) and eventually the stairs to white. Is painting them a huge job to take on? Would probably get someone to do the stairs for me but considering doing the doors myself. But looking at primers / paint / materials etc I'm wondering now if it wouldn't be cheaper to just buy white internal doors ? Am I mad to try painting them myself..any advice welcome

Bin 20 primer is fantastic. Painting a door is harder than a stairs believe it or not.

I did the whole house last year-painted everything pine to white
    Skirting,doors and stairs.
One undercoat of wood primer,no need to sand the door and two top coats.
I found the spindles on the stairs to be the most difficult trying to prevent runs etc.

You could replace them but to replace like for like ( Solid Wood for Solid Wood ) would be expensive.

Painting is a lot easier with the new Water based paints now. Just wash them down with Sugar Soap to remove any dust dirt etc. If there glossed then a light sanding of sand paper although I find the new liquid Sandpaper that you just wipe over the door a lot easier to use. ( Sorry but cant remember the Name of it. )
You might also need to use some Knotting on any Knots in the Doors. Then as above a Primer and Two finish Coats.
brush with the grain of the Wood. Lay on the paint and finish with long overlapping strokes.

we had old pine doors with old fashioned handles

I numbered each door, so knew where to repalce it

    removed doors
    handles,
filled in any gouges, holes etc

if you have new handles (chrome) etc, you might need to offer them up the door, and fill any any screws holes from the old handles

    sand (electric sander)

I went to a palce in Harolds X, cant remb name, which sprayed the doors, for 30e a door, Perfect finish,
