Airtricity new customer gas cut off

    Hi, recently moved house in summer. Switched electricity but not gas as didn’t need it straight away.
    Was away and lost phone.
    Received a bill from Airtricity of nearly €90 from 3/8 to 11/9 includes charge of €64 to lock gas meter.

    I didn’t even know I was their customer and now have to pay that pay and €75 to unlock meter. I haven’t used the gas at all.

    Is this normal? They say the left a message but phone is gone. Shouldn’t they have written to me. The bill is addressed to householder.

    If the last occupier closed their account for that address, and the supplier has no account opened for the gas supply, then they lock it off to prevent unauthorized use of unpaid gas.
