    Hey all,

We recently moved into a house it has a roof aerial and according to coverage site we should be covered by a transmitter 20km away.

With a soariew box and a TV with built in FTA I don't seem to be able to tune in any stations tv or radio

Much I can do to test the aerial is setup correctly etc ?

Can you post a pic. of the aerial, or even just a description? What part of the country are you in?

Sure, this is the aerial, sorry about the quality.

it may sound obvious, but have you selected the correct "input" on the TV remote.

I use FTA and to switch to saorview I need to change from HDMI input to Aerial input

    Yeah seems fine.

I'm unable to tune on a stand alone saorrview box and the TV is unable to tune on it's inbuilt tuner.

Well, it's a UHF TV aerial of some description anyway.

Have you traced the path of the cable between TV point & aerial, to make sure there are no gaps, say from a missing amplifier or power supply?

Which transmitter do you reckon you're covered by? I assume the aerial is pointing that direction?

A lot of the cable is not accessible to me or at least I haven't figured out a way to get at it

There's multiple tv points and I've tried them all

The website states I should be coverd by

    Crosshaven which is 20km away

    SITEINFORMATION
    Site:CrosshavenSite On-Air:Yes

The Aerial seems to be pointing at a "closer" transmitter in Bandon which is about 10km away

Multiple TV points might imply that there's amplification somewhere: amplifier could be powered off or missing.

Are there FM radio sockets too, as there's an FM aerial? I assume anything you're connecting to is marked 'TV'?

Outside on the aerial mast, do the cables run into any little plastic boxes?
Probably one at least for combining signal from the aerials: this would have 3 cables (2 in, 1 out). A box with 2 cables would most likely be an amplifier.

There's TV/FM as a single point and a SAT point, this is a feed coming from a dish that seems to be working

To my untrained eye there's two "boxes" i tried to take the best pic i could of it

And a 3rd aerial, so that would account for the 2nd box. This aerial is also for UHF TV, though for vertically polarised signals.

The only reason I can think of for there being 2 aerials like this (apart from a local 'deflector' broadcasting UK TV), is that the top one is actually pointing at Mullaghanish, originally for TV3 analogue reception, & the bottom at a now defunct local site offering better reception for the other 3 channels: maybe Crossbarry? (Bandon is HP, & Crosshaven the other direction to Mulla.)

So you think the problem at the moment is the aerial pointing at the wrong transmitter?

You're probably alright for reception from Mullaghanish.

I'd still be looking for missing/unpowered amplifiers or power supplies. (Possible outdoor 'masthead' amplifier, in 1 of those boxes, receives power on the aerial cable from an indoor PSU.)
