Going to put up a 20 ft cattle crush, have head gate and back gate sorted, want to order the steel for the side this week and am just wondering what exactly is required, size and length also type of steel required, will need 4 railings.

Would you consider buying the kits you can get on donedeal? Galvo 4 inch box with sleeves for piping. Would probably work out quite reasonable as you have the two gates. You'd have it up in no time.

Make sure it's galvanised and heavy walled. I had to take out old rusted box section uprights on our crush here with a jack hammer. Wouldn't wish it on my worst ememy.

4 inch galvinased pipe for uprights and 2 inch galvanised blue band pipe for horizontal bars. Most big agri stores would stock them. Can buy the uprights with the rings already welded on.

i dont like the weld on rings. you can buy the 5" pipe galvanised, you can buy the 50mm heavy wall galvanised and a good hole saw will cost around 20 euro. keep it simple with less things to catch on.

Did a crush for a neighbour back in late June. 4 lengths of 11/2 blueband pipe . 1 length of 3" pipe cut in 3. 6'8" each. You need one more. 4 51mm holes drilled right through each length of the 3" pipes at spacings to suit. Uprights about 18" in ground. Was made so it could be assemled /dismantled in under 30 mins Had a few posts/ pics up on the gunthering thread at the time.

Are ya not better off with a crush with gates that can be opened when an animal falls?

Being able to pull back the blue band bars will do the same trick.

No Niall from Barrett recommended the plate gates on the front. Same cost

They make good stuff. Fierce weight in the portable crush of theirs

I seen the Barrett head gate at the ploughing and had it and the head scoop demonstrated by one of the staff. I was very impressed by the whole set-up and would consider purchasing the entire crush in the future.
The ability to easily and quickly release the head scoop in an emergency along with the build quality of the head gate removed any concerns I previously had about such units.

I called into the barrett stand today. They more or less said they'd make whatever I wanted. I need a crush gate and calving gate, so hoping to use the same gate for both.

I priced manual crush gates everywhere, UK Northern Ireland Southern Ireland. Barrett’s had the best price, best quality in my opinion, really nice guy and it’s Irish made and not a UK import. Irish jobs Irish made. Also he’s a suckler farmer aswell so he has designed it very well.
I will have get commission but it is all true.
