Hi Folks, looking for a bit of advice here.

A brother in law is buying a 2nd hand leaf, he's looking to me for info about grants and charging points etc, and I know bugger all about either, so now I'm looking to you guys :D What is the story with getting the grant for putting in a charge point for a 2nd hand EV?

Do you get full grant of €600 for charge point for 2nd hand car? Also what charge point do people recommend? They have solar panels they use for hot water, is it possible to divert the energy to charging or would it be difficult to implement?

Thanks in advance for any advice offered.

The grant applies, you can buy the charger yourself and ask an electrician to install it. Or try one of the few companies who will look after it all for you for about 1100. So 500 on top of the grant.

With PV panel you'll prob need a Zappi, but remember the car needs to be charging during the day when the house is using little power to actually get any of the pv power.

Just to demonstrate my lack of knowledge, will this charger be ok for 2015 leaf?

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

No. That charger has a type 2 connector and the old Leaf needs a type 1 connector

It's also only 16A. That might be enough for your 2015 Leaf if you only have 3.3kW AC charging on board (6.6kW was an optional extra), but it doesn't future proof your charger. Make sure you get a 32A charger, whatever model you get.

And to top it off, I find that charger rather expensive.

I thought USB was bad.. at least you're only out a couple of quid if you get the wrong one of those.
