Cheesy breathing cats...

Ok, let's get a few of these sorted out:

It's bated breath not baited breath. It has to do with holding your breath (abated breath), it has nothing to do with cats eating cheese and breathing on mice.

It's toe the line not tow the line. Its from darts / stage directions / military anywhere else where you are given a line to stand against to have you in the right place.

It's moot point not mute point. Moot means debatable, doubtful, mute means silent, unable to speak.

And then there's quite and quiet. Quite a nice day. A very quiet sound. The first is pronounced I, the second is pronounced I-eh.

Thank you for your attention :D

And it's on tenterhooks, not tender hooks; and give someone short shrift, not short shift.

Language evolves and changes, there's no point in being pendantic about it.

There should be no spaces before or after the slashes.

When one can speak and write proper the world's your lobster.

Recently I've been having some trouble with ent and ant :o (very embarrassing)

    It's independent yet elegant.
    It's persistent therefore relevant.
    It's observant to be absorbent.

    I'm reluctant to be provident.
    So be vigilant or consistent.
    But it's confident and confidant.
    (And that's not a variant,
    Unlike ascendent and ascendant.)

Be vigilant and observant, once it slips it's virulent. :(

Bear* in mind, 'mute' and 'moot' are phonetically different – so that one's a bit of mute point really...
