Oscar baiting movies

    Movies produced with the sole purpose of winning an Oscar. Any movies that stand out for you as Oscar bait triumphs and failures?

    British Period pieces seem to be Oscar bait certainties

    Meryl Streep winning best actress for playing Margaret thatcher. She was far more deserving of an oscar
    In preceding years. Producers gave her Oscar bait material. She got the nod for a good impersonation in an Oscar bait movie

    Colin firth. The same deal for the kings speech. He was far more deserving of Oscar the year previously, but was thrown an Oscar bone with this movie


    Gywenrth Paltrow won an Oscar playing a Shakespearen character.

    Biggest Oscar bait failure that comes to mind is Naomi watts playing Diana. The only reason that movie was made was to give Naomi the best chance to win a lead actress Oscar.
