It seems that several cars I know who have been serviced or worked on by the same mechanic have had engine light (management) fuses removed. How dangerous is this or are the really needed. Thanks in advance

In short, the light is there for a reason :)
The light can come on for a number of issues, some small but some can be serious.
Disabling the light is a pretty stupid thing to do.

I was thinking that. It seems the mechanic in question must be trying to pull a fast one

Won't get away with it for long, things like the EML now have to work for the NCT, and if they don't, it will be a fail. The individual doing this does not deserve to be called a mechanic, there are other more appropriate descriptions, but using them here on line will incur the wrath of various people.

This is very much an individual to be avoided.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Time these people found a mechanic.

That's like an electrician removing the light switch and saying touch these two browns together it will be grand.
