Architect advice Galway

    Hi all
    I live in Galway City in an estate house
    I am looking to convert a garage at the back of my house into living accommodation by extending it.
    I would like to covert it as I don't plan on living in Galway long term but I would like a place I could stay in separate to the house for work purposes. My plan would be to rent the house and have the converted garage for myself to come and go to.
    It's a 14ft x 12 ft garage at the moment, I was thinking maybe that I would need to link it onto the house as it is detached from the house at the moment.
    Would I incur problems with property tax if they were separate
    All advice is welcome and also recommendations on a good architect in Galway as I'm not from the area
