Currently stopped just after the onramp from the dock road. No movement west bound towards Clare. Traffic till moving eastwards
Aa roadwatch says Garda attenting incident on N18 - currently no further details.
    Best avoid.

Back moving albeit single lane for now
Looks like a trailer and hay bales was the cause

Overheight vehicles entering the tunnel are unfortunately a regular occurrence. After 8 years drivers really have no excuse for not knowing the height limit. It only happens Northbound as they get stopped as the toll plaza when heading South.

They're is also over height sensors along the road, which activate divert signs to warn the truck they are over height and to divert at next exit.

There needs to be penalty points for drivers and fines for drivers/companies for bridge strikes and voilations such as overheight vehicles causing tunnel closures

The Shannon here flows East to West. The tunnel crosses it in North / South directions. Also while the N18 from Limerick to Shannon runs East/West, the road as a whole from Limerick to Galway is seen as North / South and is referenced as so on all official documentation and signage.

Technically yes as you're on the Northbound lane of the Limerick to Galway road. And after Shannon, yes you're actually really traveling North.
