Spotted an ad for a new R8 V10 in a dealer in Dublin at the princely sum of €331,821 which I thought sounded very expensive so I spec'd the same car on a uk site and it would cost £145,050 (which is €162,700) so basically the same car costs twice here as in the UK. What a feckin rip off, why are the government in this country so intent on ensuring that no one can drive anything bigger than a bog standard 2.0 car, its like they don't want anyone showing any sort of wealth when you see the price difference in high end cars.

I'll never be in a position to buy such a car but if I were I wouldn't dream of even pricing one here!

It's not just supercars. Go to any city in the UK and you'll soon notice a much higher proportion of performance cars like S3's M2's , M4's, AMG45's are fairly common over there because they simply just don't get shafted by their government to the same extent that we do.

I think that dealer is just taking the piss. the vrt calculator gives an OMSP of €241320 for a 1 year old 5.2l V10 with 10,000 miles.

    Plus €80k VRT.

if the cost in the UK is €162,700 as per the op that makes a total of about 240K to bring one in yourself. the dealer is taking the piss.

Yeah, buying from Audi would be a lot cheaper alright (about €270k?)

Does it have folding side mirrors though?

It does and 3 head rests in the back.

it would work out cheaper, to rent one bedroom in a boghole part of Northern Ireland, change your licence, insure it in UK and pay no VRT.

Will be interesting to see how this lands after brexit.....

In Ireland when you see a Badass rangerover or Merc..thats a UK Bently driver or ferrari driver. Unfair for sure, but sure its a grand country we have for the most part.

Tax them too much and watch them vanish off to another country. The rich have options, never forget that. 80% of income tax is paid by 20% of the people.

We'll have to pay Customs Duty & VAT as well as VRT. It'll probably mean the end of imports...

Good thing Dacias aren't made in the UK or the cheap little Sandero would literally cost more in tax than the car itself :D

Somehow I can’t see that R8 ever selling here, if someone was wealthy enough to afford one then they would want it spec’d to their own choice and I’d also think any potential buyer would price one in the uk and see the massive saving that could be made buying one there.

Lastly the orange detailing is hideous and I’d say that car was spec’d for someone and for some reason the sale didn’t go ahead.
