Saw a good looking woman wearing sunglasses on a dark cloudy day, she was either pretentious or extremely optimistic

I am wildly pretentious, and it comes from deep in my soul.

When I think pretention, I think of Del Boy going through his wannabe 'Yuppie' phase in Only Fools And Horses (a show I've watched in basically a loop since I was born).

Pastel drinks with umbrellas? Mais, oui!
    Pretentious job title? Mange tout!
    Disaster strikes? Goodnight Vienna!

It's one of the worst insults I can think of; in one word, you're accusing someone of being a humourless, deeply insecure, loser whose self-belief and intelligence are entirely unmerited.

Yowza. I think I'd rather be accused of having a personality disorder. At least those guys can't help but be dickheads; if you're pretentious, you choose to be a dick.

One of the most prominent symptoms must surely be the adoption of a "Deefer"-type accent.

It makes my ears sad :(

    the D4 accent

A cousin of mine is. Last week, he put a photo up on Facebook of a flat white with a copy of James Joyce’s ‘Dubliners’ alongside it.

I'm kind of the opposite, in real life anyway. I put on a slightly worse front of myself than what is true.

Thinking you know everything about whiskey/wine just because you bought/got one or two expensive bottles in your life, I know people like this and were never mad into whiskey or wine, they get a nice bottle from someone at Christmas, next thing they are swirling it in a glass and smelling it making up what it smells like and how every other whiskey is inferior.....Gobsh**es!

    D4 Accents

Arguing with people over which college/university is better. Who gives a solid f**k!

If you want to find out if someone's accent ('D4' or otherwise) is pretentious, make them really angry and see if they revert to their 'real' accent.

Yes, especially before they went main stream. Season 2 of Twin Peaks was way too mainstream for me.

We don't handle money well in this country at all...we just can't help ourselves allowing money get the better of us.

From any lesser person this could be regarded as pretensions of grandeur. But you have done your research, and deserve to be the spokesperson for the nation on this topic.

    It's all about perception.

What a subtle way of disagreeing with me, I can see I'm out of my depth here.

I was a child of the 80s where the vast majority of us hadn't a pot to piss in...by the late 90s we were flying into race meetings in helicopters.
